Fragile

Quick update for those who are interested...

We have other things to post about like our anniversary, Ry surfing, and our house purchase, but those will have to wait until we aren't so tired...

Bean is doing well, but he is still very slender.  It is quite the task just to get him out of his incubator for mom or dad to hold him once a day.  It is tough, but we are happy that we get to hold him instead of just poking our hands through his incubator.

He is weighing in at around 4 lbs which is slightly above his birth weight.  We are excited, but it is still crazy to think that Ry has eaten burritos that are bigger than Bean.  He is in coasting mode until he is able to maintain his body temperature, eat every three hours from mom, and have a constant weight growth.  Not a whole ton to update really.

The snuggle fest is the best!

  1. Yea, skin to skin is awesome! I am so happy you can hold him, but the cords make things tricky. Just another thought: IF he is better at taking a bottle than nursing, I would say go that route to get him out of there and then work on the nursing at home. Anika was just sooooo bad at nursing and it seemed to just hamper her progress. Then I finally realized if she could just eat (whether bottle or nurse) then she go home. We finally stopped stressing about it and got her out on bottle and then worked on nursing at home where it was easier to do without people all around, cords, etc. anyway. Then I did a cold-turkey nursing trial weekend and she totally took to it (and never went back to bottle-ha). But if he is nursing like a champ (comparatively), do that! And if you felt like you were up to it, you do have the option to take him home with a feeding tube if/when all his other needs are non-issues. They just don't usually talk about that.

  2. Props for posting a manly skin to skin picture. Brandon had me swear I would never post the picture I took of him doing skin to skin time with the girls.

And I totally agree with Lina. Bottle feeding will get you out of the hospital faster.
